As Founding Partner and Director at POOOL, Alex brings extensive experience spanning architecture, retail, hospitality, and urban developments throughout Asia and the United Kingdom. Born and raised in the UK, he studied Architecture at Kingston University before completing his postgraduate diploma at Westminster University in London, where he was nominated for the prestigious RIBA Silver Medal.
After working on a wide range of projects in the United Kingdom, Alex moved to Hong Kong with Heatherwick Studio, where he led the local office and oversaw the redevelopment of Swire’s Pacific Place shopping mall and a new hotel tower development in the city. In 2013, he founded Spawton Architecture, building a strong portfolio of projects across Asia with leading developers, hospitality groups, and infrastructure organisations.
Having lived and worked in London and Hong Kong, Alex brings a pragmatic and design-led approach to architecture, combining strategic thinking with a deep understanding of construction, placemaking, and project delivery. At POOOL, he continues to shape the studio’s collaborative and internationally informed design vision.
